MacGyver's Girls
MacGyver’s Girls is comprised of Desiree Gordon, Steve Chapin, Liam Frier, and Jonathan Chapin. The band forged over a campfire in Nova Scotia, Desiree’s songs luring them in like a Siren. The complications of canadian/american language mis-communication led them quickly to the one certainty in both lexicons... MacGyver (wherein lies the fruits of all civilization). The eclectic sound and personalities of each member distinguishes the ‘Girls’ from other contemporary artists. The goal of MacGyver’s Girls is to use their music to glorify the ukulele as the weapon of the future.
Desiree Gordon, sultry and distracted, composes whimsical musings on the everyday and the taboo, and then goes and sings them with her uke. These songs are then brought to MacGyver’s Girls for the MacGy-Con-Version. Steve Chapin, brother of the late Harry Chapin, plays elegant piano accompaniment, while singing leads or adding to the three-part harmony. Steve’s smooth vocals and charged piano playing creates the backbone to the Gershwinesque sound. Liam Frier, lead guitar, ukulele, and vocals, brings an exciting gypsy jazz element to the quartet. Frier’s blazing solos and technical rhythms play off Steve’s piano creating a complex, yet playful dialogue. Steve’s son, Jonathan Chapin, plays rhythm ukulele and bass. The father son collaboration offers a charming balance of professionalism and banter. The eccentric personalities, songs, and arrangements meld together to form MacGyver’s Girls.
